The Uruguayan songwriter Jorge Drexler is the guest of the "National Sample XI-songwriters" Cantigas de Mayo ", held in Ceutí between 5 and 8 May next, and act the last day of the contest to coincide with the awards to the winners

Drexler won an 'Oscar' with their song "Across the River" on the soundtrack of the movie "Motorcycle Diaries" in 2005, starring Antonio Banderas and accompanied on guitar by Carlos Santana, and first song Castilian in history to receive this award

His songs have also been included in other films, and recorded by artists as Mercedes Sosa, Shakira, Ana Belen, Victor Manuel, Pablo Milanes, Ketama, Miguel Ríos, Ana Torroja and Rosario, among many other performers.

Jorge Drexler began writing songs to mid-1989 and in 1992 released his first album, "The light that knows steal."

The release of their second album, "Radar" (1994), closed its first stage in Uruguay, before coming to live in Spain, where he recorded his third album "Swing" (1996), with contributions from Joaquín Sabina, Luis Eduardo Aute and Javier Alvarez.

Recently composed the soundtrack and two new songs for the James Ivory film "The city of your final destination," starring Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney and Charlotte Gainsbourg, which premiered at the "Fourth Film Festival of Rome."

He has also written a song for the Spanish co-production "Lope" directed by Andrucha Waddington.

In recent years he has accumulated three consecutive nominations for Grammy Awards, four consecutive nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards and two consecutive Spanish Music Prize, among other awards.
